Ở trận đấu đội tuyển Việt Nam thắng 5-0 trước Myanmar tối 21-12, tiền đạo Văn Toàn phải rời sân từ phút 62 sau một tình huống va chạm mạnh với đối thủ. Sau trận đấu, anh bước đi khó khăn và được kèm sát bởi bác sĩ.

Như vậy có thể hiểu, Văn Toàn phải nói lời chia tay hành trình ASEAN Cup 2024 cùng đội tuyển Việt Nam khi giải đấu chỉ còn khoảng 2 tuần nữa sẽ kết thúc.
Tại vòng bảng ASEAN Cup 2024, tính đến trước trận đấu với Myanmar, Văn Toàn là quân bài dự bị chiến lược. Anh thường xuyên được tung vào sân trong khoảng 30 phút cuối và đã kịp có 1 bàn thắng vào lưới tuyển Lào.

Với tình hình của Văn Toàn và Hai Long, HLV Kim Sang Sik hiện còn phương án cho vị trí tiền đạo cánh phải là Châu Ngọc Quang. tuyển thủ đã được thử nghiệm ở trận đấu với Philippines (hòa 1-1). Ngoài ra, ông có thể sử dụng Vũ Văn Thanh, người từng nhiều lần thi đấu vị trí này trong màu áo CLB Công An Hà Nội.
Theo kế hoạch, đội tuyển Việt Nam sẽ tiếp tục ở lại Việt Trì, Phú Thọ tập luyện. Đến ngày 23-12, thầy trò HLV Kim Sang Sik bắt đầu di chuyển đến Singapore, chuẩn bị cho trận đấu được dự báo sẽ khó khăn khi thi đấu trên sân cỏ nhân tạo Jalan Besar của đội chủ nhà.
Trận bán kết ASEAN Cup 2024 giữa Việt Nam – Singapore diễn ra lượt đi trên sân Jalan Besar (Singapore) lúc 20h ngày 26-12, và lượt về trên sân Việt Trì (Phú Thọ) lúc 20h ngày 29-12.
