The GeForce RTX 3090 has 24 GB of VRAM. Who would need a graphics card of 24 GB VRAM?

I once did a calculation of how much VRAM it would take to render everything you can see out the window of an airplane or helicopter flying low over a large city.

The answer?

20 GB.

A 3090 has enough left over to render the inside of the cockpit as well.

And the application that will use it unmodified has just been released (not coincidental, I’m sure).

Flight Sim 2020 will use all of that right away.

X-Plane has been able to do that for quite a while, but you need 3rd party scenery to make it try and use that much VRAM.

So… flight sims will use 24 GB of VRAM pretty easily.

Something to keep in mind is that the 3090 is basically a Titan, aimed to workstations rather than Gaming. They labeled it 3090 because they saw that a big number of people was willing to pay for it and the titan was made in limited numbers, so they changed the name to reflect that now it is going to be mass produced.

Although I wouldn’t be surprised if they launched a Ampere Titan knowing nvidia.
