Ở set một và set ba, Sinner chỉ cần một game thắng đỡ bóng để tạo ra tỷ số 6-3. Zverev chỉ chơi tốt trong set hai, khi cứu hai break-point đầu set rồi giữ chắc game giao, kéo đối thủ vào tie-break. Ở loạt đấu cân não, Zverev dẫn trước nhưng không giữ được lợi thế, thua ngược 4-7.

“Bảo vệ danh hiệu luôn là điều có ý nghĩa lớn”, Sinner nói sau trận chung kết. “Bạn phải vượt qua áp lực lớn hơn các giải đấu khác. Tôi khởi đầu trận đấu với cảm giác tốt trong mọi cú quả, đặc biệt là giao bóng. Tôi không dự giải khởi đầu nào trước khi đến Melbourne, nhưng trong tâm trí, tôi luôn chuẩn bị cho những trận đấu khó khăn nhất”.
