Những ngày gần đây, Tổng thống đắc cử Mỹ Donald Trump liên tiếp đưa ra những lời kêu gọi mua lại đảo Greenland, vùng lãnh thổ tự trị của Đan Mạch.
Ngay từ nhiệm kỳ đầu, ông Trump đã nêu ra ý tưởng này với các cố vấn cấp cao của mình vào năm 2019 nhưng chưa xúc tiến bất cứ động thái nào liên quan cho tới lúc rời nhiệm sở.
Giờ đây, ngay khi chưa bắt đầu nhiệm kỳ 2, ông Trump đã khơi dậy lại ý tưởng. Ngày 7/1, con trai ông – Donald Trump Jr., thậm chí còn bay tới Nuuk, Greenland cùng với các đại diện của chính quyền Mỹ sắp tới, một động thái đang làm dấy lên nhiều câu hỏi về tính nghiêm túc trong phát ngôn của ông Trump.
Nhiều chính trị gia, trong đó có cả Thủ tướng Đan Mạch Mette Frederiksen đã phát đi một thông điệp rõ ràng với ông Trump: “Greenland không phải để bán!”.
Thế nhưng, nếu điều này xảy ra thì Mỹ sẽ phải trả bao nhiêu tiền để có được Greenland?

Một phép so sánh khác là xem xét lại những nỗ lực mua Greenland trước đây.
Năm 1946, Mỹ đã từng nghĩ đến việc mua hòn đảo Bắc Cực này với giá 100 triệu USD trả bằng vàng. Con số đó tương đương với hơn 1,6 tỷ USD ngày nay.
Tuy nhiên, cả hai phép tính trên đều thấp hơn tổng sản phẩm quốc nội của Greenland, đạt 3,24 tỷ USD vào năm 2021.
Ngoài ra, trên thực tế vẫn còn có các giao dịch mua đất đai khác trong quá khứ. Chẳng hạn như, Mỹ đã mua quần đảo Virgin từ Đan Mạch vào năm 1917 với giá 25 triệu USD vàng, tương đương khoảng 616,2 triệu USD ngày nay.
Năm 1803, Mỹ đã mua Louisiana từ Pháp, địa bàn rộng lớn trải dài từ sông Mississippi đến dãy Rocky Mountain, với giá 15 triệu USD, tương đương khoảng 418,8 triệu USD ngày nay.
Câu trả lời chung nhất ở thời điểm hiện nay là chưa rõ ông Trump sẽ cần phải chi bao nhiêu tiền từ ngân khố Mỹ nếu muốn tiếp tục mua Greenland. Cũng chưa biết liệu Quốc hội Mỹ, cho dù đảng Cộng hòa chiếm ưu thế ở cả hai viện, có đồng ý với đề xuất mua Greenland của ông Trump hay không.
Theo Hiến pháp Mỹ, quốc hội là cơ quan sẽ phê duyệt việc phân bổ ngân sách cho bất kỳ giao dịch mua đất đai hoặc lãnh thổ mới nào như vậy.
Tháng 8/2019, sau khi xuất hiện thông tin về việc ông Trump đang cân nhắc mua Greenland, nhiều nhà lãnh đạo chính trị ở hòn đảo này và Đan Mạch đã lập tức lên tiếng bác bỏ. Họ gọi đó là ý tưởng “hoàn toàn vô lý” hoặc chỉ là “trò đùa”.
