Tối 26-12, Singapore nhận thất bại 0-2 trước tuyển Việt Nam. Họ giữ sạch lưới cho đến những phút bù giờ, trước khi để cho Tiến Linh và Xuân Son lập công.
Trận này, đội chủ nhà Singapore lựa chọn sân Jalan Besar, nơi có mặt cỏ nhân tạo, làm địa điểm thi đấu. Trước đó tại vòng bảng, đoàn quân của HLV Tsutomu Ogura được chơi trên sân vận động quốc gia Singapore với mặt cỏ tự nhiên.
Lý do là bởi sân đấu này được sử dụng để tổ chức hòa nhạc. Do đó mà đội tuyển Singapore phải dời nơi thi đấu sang một địa điểm mới.
Sau trận thua Việt Nam, báo chí nước này đã đặt dấu hỏi về sân vận động. Tờ SportStar có bài viết với dòng tít: “Vì sao trận Singapore gặp Việt Nam tại ASEAN Cup 2024 phải đổi sân thi đấu?”.
Bên dưới bài viết này có đoạn: “Quyết định chuyển từ sân vận động quốc gia Singapore sang sân Jalan Besar đã gây ra nhiều tranh cãi. Từ một địa điểm có sức chứa tới 50.000 chỗ ngồi, nay sân mới chỉ có tầm 6.000 chỗ”.
Trang Vavel cũng nêu ra vấn đề tương tự. Theo trang này, dù sân Jalan Besar đã nhiều lần được Singapore sử dụng trong quá khứ nhưng việc thay đổi mặt sân khi giải đấu đang diễn ra là điều khó hiểu.
Ngoài vấn đề sân vận động, báo chí Singapore cũng đặt dấu hỏi về trọng tài. Phần lớn nhắc đến tình huống tuyển Việt Nam được hưởng phạt đền khi Shakir Hamzah để tay chạm bóng trong vòng cấm.
Straits Times, một trong những tờ báo lớn của đảo quốc sư tử, giật tít: “Singapore nhận thất bại đau lòng sau những lùm xùm về VAR”.
Ngay dòng đầu tiên của bài báo đã có đoạn: “Những chú sư tử chịu một đòn đau vì quả phạt đền gây tranh cãi”. Ngoài ra, Straits Times còn nhận định rằng trọng tài bỏ qua một quả phạt đền của Singapore trong hiệp 2, khi Faris Ramli bị Hồ Tấn Tài kéo ngã.
Channel News Asia thì nhận xét pha bóng Shakir Hamzah dùng tay chơi bóng trong vòng cấm là “quyết định nghiệt ngã”.
