Nàng tiên Maleficent (Angelina Jolie đóng) tiếp tục gắn bó với con gái nuôi Aurora (Elle Fanning). Tuy nhiên, quan hệ giữa họ rạn nứt khi Aurora thông báo sắp cưới một hoàng tử. Từng bị phụ tình, Maleficent phản đối đám cưới và dần mất kiểm soát. Ở cao trào trailer, cô diện trang phục đen bó sát, phô diễn năng lực và trở thành mối nguy cho vương quốc.
Đoạn phim cũng giới thiệu nhân vật Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer đóng) – nữ hoàng của vương quốc láng giềng. Bà mang vẻ hiền từ nhưng có những lời nói khiến mẹ con Maleficent chia rẽ. Ngoài ra, cảnh cuối trailer tiết lộ Maleficent có những đồng loại sống dưới đáy biển.
Tác phẩm do Joachim Rønning đạo diễn, là phần hai của Maleficent (2014) – bom tấn thu 758 triệu USD toàn cầu. Loạt phim biến tấu chuyện cổ tích Sleeping Beauty (Công chúa ngủ trong rừng) – đưa nhân vật tiên ác thành vai chính. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil còn được nhiều khán giả quan tâm do đánh dấu việc Jolie quay lại đóng chính phim điện ảnh sau bốn năm, kể từ By the Sea (2015). Ba năm qua, cô chỉ đạo diễn, làm nhà sản xuất và lồng tiếng phim hoạt hình.
